Fascinating stuff. I'm not really a fan of Ken Loach's films, but I enjoyed this exploration of Houghton. Especially the legend of the hawthorn, that's a great story!
The Old Oak sounds quite interesting. As in a perverse fashion ( as good a word as any, perhaps ), it reminds me that the Good Old US of A isn't the ONLY country plagued by bigotry, intolerance, paranoia & inability to accept anyone / anything significantly different, & progress is looked upon as something to be approached warily if AT ALL.
Apologies Daniel, I inadvertently shortened your name in my last reply. But as I said in that, dislike of others from outside is a sad trait of some people of all nations. The Old Oak is not a comfortable watch.
Actually, my name is Akhenaten of Amarna. 😉 No worries.
I have put off watching The Handmaid's Tale for roughly a year, & Under the Banner of Heaven, whereas I'm at least somewhat more familiar with V For Vendetta.
